The design of Gary Castles Stores is reminiscent of the old-fashioned shoe shop. The shelving in the Double Bay store covers one long wall and features a sliding ladder system accessing hundreds of shoe boxes on display like the way they used to be. Other store locations included Sydney’s historic Strand Arcade and Oxford Street Paddington. Each store permutation takes advantage of and responds to its particular site’s constraints. The designs are conceived and controlled through the use of the folded aluminium shelving, aluminium screens, aluminium sliding ladder, and a clever shop front displays which focuses all attention on the product whilst creating a strong brand identity.
